Residential & Commercial Garbage Disposal

Households and businesses can dispose of garbage at Lopez Solid Waste for a fee — see below for a complete list of disposal fees. Save money and reduce waste by recycling many plastic, paper, glass, and metal items for free!

GARBAGE DISPOSAL
Credit card transactions incur a 3% processing fee.

13-gallon or smaller bag/can – $5.00 

32-gallon bag/can – $10.00

55-gallon contractor bag – $17.60

​Non-standard containers – $0.32 per gallon ($5.00 minimum)

Truck/trailer load, common garbage – $2.34 per cubic foot

Truck/trailer load, high-density garbage – $4.68 per cubic foot

Upholstered chair – $9.50 

Upholstered couch – $18.00

Upholstered sofa bed – $27.00

Mattress, single – $12.00

Mattress, double – $14.00

Mattress, queen/king – $15.00

Propane tank, empty, up to 10 gal – $9.50

Tire/wheel, car/truck, up to 16.5" – $9.50 each

Small engine equipment, drained of fluids – $5.00

Large appliance, non-refrigerated – $22.00

Refrigerated/freon appliance – $56.00 

Printer, scanner, copier – $4.00 

Litter & Noxious Weeds

Qualifying types of noxious weeds (up to a certain amount) and litter from public beaches and roadways can be disposed of at the Lopez Dump for free, paid for by San Juan County. Customers must notify the attendant and provide details before disposing. Please review all guidelines and limitations here.

Unsecured Loads

Car load not properly secured – $3.00

Truck load not properly secured – $5.00

FREE RECYCLING & REUSE

Save money and reduce waste by sorting out recyclable items from your garbage!

 

Here's a list of items that can be recycled at the Dump for free. The list includes:

  • Most types of plastic bottles (clean & empty)

  • Aluminum cans (clean & empty)

  • Steel cans (clean & empty)

  • Glass bottles (clean & empty)

  • Mixed paper (clean & dry; NO waxed paper, plastic-coated paper, or plastic liners)

  • Some personal electronics (NO printers, scanners, fax machines)

  • Scrap metal 

  • Aluminum & copper electrical wire

 

Take It or Leave It (TIOLI) is a free exchange of reusable items, including clothes, tools, books, furniture, kitchenware, sports equipment, jewelry, and more. Some donated items, listed on the left, are still subject to disposal fees.

 

PaintCare — On Sundays only, bring qualifying paint products to the Lopez Dump for reuse and recycling. Please review guidelines and limitations here.

 

Hazardous Waste Disposal — Some hazardous materials can be safely disposed of at the Lopez Dump. Others must be stored and disposed of at a Househould Hazardous Waste Round-Up event. See guidelines here.
