How Best to "Leave It":
Donating at TIOLI

  • Bring clean, gently used, fully functioning, and seasonally appropriate reusable items to TIOLI on Saturdays and Mondays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Each donation must be inspected by staff before it can be left at TIOLI. Staff have the right to refuse any item for any reason, including seasonality, condition, or limited capacity. See a list below of items that cannot be donated at TIOLI.

  • All items must be functional, clean, free of debris, drained of fluids, and free of food and mold. Items that aren't clean will not be accepted.

  • If an item is refused, it is your responsibility to take the item away or pay to throw it away at the Dump.

  • TIOLI staff can also limit the amount donated per person per day — please be respectful if your item(s) are not accepted.

  • All powered items must be functional at the time of drop-off.

  • Disposal fees still apply to large items that may have to be thrown away, including upholstered furniture, mattresses, large appliances, and refrigerated appliances.

In addition to the rules listed above, here are some ways that you can better support staff and volunteers when donating at TIOLI:

  • Bag up smaller items and collections of items. Labels help!

  • Make sure items have all their pieces and will be enjoyable for others.

  • If you have electronics, power tools, or small appliances that aren't fully functioning, you CANNOT leave them at TIOLI, but you may be able to recycle them for free!

    • Some electronics are considered eWaste and can be recycled for free — learn more

    • Broken power tools and appliances that are at least 50% steel can often be recycled.

  • Wrap sharp items for the safety of our staff and volunteers.

  • Make sure all plastic storage containers (i.e. Tupperwares) have matching lids.

TIOLI will accept a limited amount of large items as space permits, including windows, doors, exercise equipment, sinks, bathtubs, and metal furniture. Lopez Rocks and Lopez Island Buy Nothing groups are also great ways to exchange large items for free.
